SSI's RAPID System is a comprehensive biometric access management system utilizing portable fingerprint technology. Based on a tamperproof identity record, the encrypted information is embedded into a 2-D  barcode that can be printed on an identification card or document.  The identity record contains an individual's biometric identifier along with relevant information that is optically read by Gatekeeper manned and unmanned checkpoint stations.   The holder's fingerprint is then compared to the record on the card to immediately validate that the person holding the card or document is who they claim to be.  A complete record of all access events is maintained, including forensic data such as the actual fingerprint image and the particulars of the card that was scanned.  Significantly, there is no need to access centralized databases to perform secure identification.
