What is the RAPIDTM System?

The RAPID System is a comprehensive identification protection and verification system utilizing portable fingerprint technology. It is based on a tamperproof, identity record that is printed on an ID card or document in the form of a 2D barcode. The identity record contains an individual's biometric identifier along with relevant personal information that is optically read by an off-the-shelf barcode scanner. The use of passive technology for ID cards provides significant cost and security advantages over microprocessor based so-called "Smart Cards". Sensitive information carried within the RAPID System ID card or document, including both the individual's Social Security Number and their biometric identifier are protected and may only be accessed by authorized persons and/or agencies using the RAPID Checkpoint Software. 

Identity verification within RAPID applications functions without the need to reference a centralized database, since all of the identifying information is embedded on the card or document. Using the RAPID System, identity verification is completely secure and cannot be manipulated. The biometric identifier is fingerprint-based and guarantees the authenticity of the identity, while maintaining compatibility with existing law enforcement systems. A log of all attempted access, including an image of the person's fingerprint who is attempting access, is maintained within the system.
